‘The last supper’ issue on Tempo magazine in Indonesia had to apologise to the Catholics in the country. It portrayed the late president Suharto with his six children a copy of The Last Supper. Report from thejakartapost.com, Catholics in Indonesia were offended by this as the Leonardo Da Vince’s masterpiece was regards as one of the religious paintings. The late president Suharto ruled Indonesia for 30 years filled with corruption and strict control or shall I say iron fist. His reign was well known for this personal glory and not for the country hence the portrayal of him as a great leader in the drawing was not acceptable.
Eight Catholic organizations representatives went to Tempo’s office and 300 people were about to rally at Central Java due to the unethical publishing done by the political magazine. Knowing that religions, cultures, traditions and ethnic races are delicate issues in Indonesia, this political magazine should be wiser and be mindful to balance these issues to keep the peace and harmony in the country.
